8. Geoffrey Boycott runs out Derek Randall
Derek Randall was run out in front of his home crowd at Trent Bridge in 1977, after a mix-up with Geoffrey Boycott, who was playing his first Test in three years. Randall returned to the pavilion ‘almost with tears in his eyes’ but Boycott made amends with a first innings century. Luckily, Randall hit the winning runs in the second innings, partnered by Boycott, who finished 80 not out, meaning the incident was quickly forgotten.
