5. England’s Jim Laker takes 19 wickets in one match
Jim Laker became the first cricketer to take 19 wickets in a Test match in 1956, a feat that has not been repeated since and is unlikely to ever be repeated again. The off-spinner’s haul included a clean sweep in the second innings – a feat since repeated by Anil Kumble but Laker’s figures are better – and his finally tally of 19 for 90 remains a record.
