In a bizarre relationship the Formula 1 race in the Libyan capital was in conjunction with the national lottery, meaning the holder of the ticket with the winning driver on it would receive a cash prize.
Suspicions were raised about Tazio Nuvolari, Achille Varzi and Baconin Borzacchini conspiring with the ticket holders, although it was never proved.
