West Germany v Austria, 1982 World Cup
After the Germans had succumbed to a shock defeat to Algeria on the opening day, going into the final match there was only one way the nation and opponents Austria could both qualify.
A 1-0 victory for the three-time winners would see both countries progress ahead of the Africans and low and behold, after 10 minutes the Germans scored and the rest of the game was played out a walking pace – but no rules were officially broken.
