The Calciopoli Scandal
In 2006 a huge scandal unfurled in Italian football in which Juventus were the team firmly at the heart of the allegations.
For their involvement in match fixing the club were stripped of their Serie A titles of 2004 and 2005 and relegated to Serie B for the first time in their history.
Pakistan spot-fixing
During the Test series between England and Pakistan in 2010 international cricket was again embroiled in match-fixing controversy.
The term ‘spot-fixing’ was coined as Pakistani players were found guilty of deliberately bowling dot balls, with bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir and captain Salman Butt given bans and terms in prison.
