Jack Rowley had the unusual nickname of ‘The Gunner,’ which would of course never be allowed today because of the association with Manchester United’s rivals Arsenal, but was earned due to his remarkably prolific goalscoring form.
Rowley was converted from left winger into a wonderful forward, with manager Matt Busby taking note of his finishing prowess, and it is fair to say the decision paid dividends.
