5) Dimitri Payet Lille – 13 assists
Payet’s wonderful season earned him a move to Marseille this summer for an undisclosed fee, and he will possibly replace the outgoing Valbuena. The 26-year-old winger scored 16 goals last year, too – so it looks like Marseille have got themselves a great deal.
4) Mezut Ozil – Real Madrid – 13 assists
The German playmaker would be more heralded if he wasn’t playing in the same team as a certain Cristiano Ronaldo. Ozil’s 13 assists show his importance to Madrid’s attack, and at just 24-years-old, the wide-eyed superstar is only going to get better.
3) Marek Hamsik – Napoli – 14 assists
After seeing Lavezzi and Cavani leave Napoli, it will only be a matter of time before a European giant approaches them again with a mega-money bid for the 25-year-old Slovakian with the ridiculous haircut. In the mean time, Rafa Benitez will no doubt build his new look Napoli side around Marek Hamsik.
2) Franck Ribery – Bayern Munich – 14 assists
The French 30-year-old believes he’s had such a good season, he deserves to be crowned World Player of the Year, and it would be difficult to argue against him. Ribery played a starring role in Bayern Munich’s treble-winning season, and could pip Messi and co to the title come January.
1) Andres Iniesta – Barcelona – 15 assists
There isn’t much more that needs to be said about Andres Iniesta. World Cup, European Championship, Champions League, La Liga and even Club World Championship medals sit in his trophy cabinet at home. The player that defines Barcelona’s tika-take style. Iniesta, along with his teammate Xavi, has paved the way for a new brand of slight, technical central midfielders to rule European football.
