2. Andy Carroll, Newcastle United to Liverpool (£35m)
On the last day of the 2011 transfer window, Liverpool made a major splash by landing Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez in a £50 million coup. But while Suarez was a star, Carroll proved to be a stinker as the same guy who scored 28 goals in the previous two seasons scored just 6 in three seasons at Anfield.
1. Raheem Sterling, Liverpool to Manchester City (£49m)
After finishing a distant second to Chelsea on the 2014-15 Premier League table, Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini emptied the vault and shattered the previous record for a single Englishman (by a whopping 40% increase) to land highly-touted Liverpool attacker Raheem Sterling. One of the fastest rising stars in the entire Premier League, Sterling is just as dangerous as a striker and as a midfielder.
Whether or not the deal lives up to his value remains to be seen, but if Sterling becomes the catalyst for a Premier League title run in year 1 with the club, no one at Etihad Stadium will question the price it took to get there.
