2. Real Madrid
Transfer fees received since 2008/09: €303.7 million
Real Madrid as a club are often characterised by their extraordinary transfer market spending, with the current side even labelled the new Galacticos.
Last summer, they brought in Gareth Bale for a world record fee, along with Asier Illarramendi, Isco, Daniel Carvajal and Casemiro – resulting in the sale of Mesut Ozil to Arsenal, Gonzalo Higuain, Raul Albiol and Jose Callejon to Napoli and Pedro Leon to Getafe.
It was their biggest selling transfer window since 2009-10, when they allowed Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben, Alvaro Negredo, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Javi Garcia to depart – and those two summers make up the majority of the club’s transfer income over the last five years.
