2. Cesc Fabregas
Not exactly a Premier League new-boy and many Arsenal fans will still be questioning why their club’s buy-back option wasn’t enforced when they see the impact he has had on Chelsea since his arrival.
But Fabregas could have returned to England after a devastatingly poor time at his dream, boyhood club a broken and disheartened player but almost from the first kick of the ball against Burnley on Chelsea’s first match-day, and that sumptuous assist for Andre Schurrle’s equaliser, he showed that he was certainly back in business.
1. Diego Costa
Snide, dirty, nasty but successful – it’s as if Costa was designed with the express aim of playing for Jose Mourinho.
The pantomime villain of the season, Costa began his season as if he had taken inspiration from the last man to don that title Luis Suarez, with a blistering number of goals – seven in his first four games.
He’s likely the best buy of the season because Chelsea have needed a player of his calibre to spearhead their attack after so many poor signings and failed attempts to rectify this problem area.
Costa has and did, and the rewards are there for all to see in 2014/15 winners medals for the Blues squad.
