6. Wayne Rooney to Chelsea
Depending on whether you believe Sir Alex Ferguson or not, Wayne Rooney has submitted one or two transfer requests to leave Manchester United.
This past summer, the England international was widely linked with Chelsea, with Jose Mourinho publicly commenting on the club’s three bids in his press conferences.
Given the struggles of Chelsea’s senior strikers Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o, the signing of proven Premier League goalscorer Rooney would have been a major boost to the Blues’ title chances.
Instead, it is as usual Chelsea’s wonderful group of attacking midfielders who are supplying the goals, with Eden Hazard, Oscar and Frank Lampard the Stamford Bridge outfit’s top scorers as Torres, Ba and Eto’o flounder.
Rooney meanwhile has been Manchester United’s best player in an underwhelming season. Quite where David Moyes’ men would be without him is a scary prospect.
