A list of ten truly average footballers, who have somehow represented England…
After Andros Townsend and Ross Barkley received call-ups for Roy Hodgson’s England squad to face Moldova and Ukraine, fanatix compiles a list of ten other footballers from the last decade with totally undeserving caps!
1) Frazier Campbell
During his last three years at Sunderland, Campbell bagged a grand total of three league goals. Nonetheless, England management felt this was deserving a cap in 2012 – and to be fair to the Cardiff City forward, he bagged!
2) Anthony Gardner
Gardner, at 32-years-old, should be at the peak of his central-defensive powers. Instead, the ex-Tottenham man plays for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship. Unlikely to make Hodgson’s World Cup squad next summer, it has to be said.
3) Jonjo Shelvey
Liverpool cut their losses on their painfully ‘undynamic’ midfielder this summer, shipping him out to Swansea for £5m. To be fair, Shelvey has a rasping shot – which occasionally makes him look good on Match of the Day – but he isn’t.
