Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid)
Arsenal, like a whole host of clubs across the Continent, are desperate to be able to get their hands on the in-form Brazil-born attacker this summer.
Working in the Gunners’ favour is the fact that it is now looking increasingly likely that Atleti will be parting company with the newly capped Spain international when the transfer window does reopen in July in order to generate enough cash so as to be able to pay off their ever-mounting debts.
However, what could work against the north London club and their ambitions to land Costa are both the amount of money it is going to need to lure the player to the Emirates next season – with some estimates claiming it will be as high as £50m – and the competition the club will face from rival clubs in Europe for the 25-year-old.
And in particular from London rivals Chelsea, who are understood to be close to agreeing a big-money deal to sign Costa this summer.
