5. A Raiders current assistant – Last time the Raiders fired a head coach midseason, the fired Lane Kiffin and replaced him with OL coach Tom Cable. This year the OL coach is Tony Sparano, who has former head coaching experience and led the Dolphins to the playoffs in 2008. Sparano is a front-runner for the interim head coaching job until the end of the season, as are Sr. Offensive Assistant Al Saunders (an experience NFL veteran with 30+ years of assistant coaching) and Offensive Coordinator Greg Olson (a QB guru who has been rising in the NFL ranks).
Whoever the Raiders choose to be their interim head coach has a good shot at being hired for a permanent position if he can turn this season around at all.
4. Jim Mora (HC, UCLA) – For enough money the Raiders could give former Falcons and Seahawks head coach Jim Mora a look. In 2004, Mora took the Atlanta Falcons to the playoffs. He coached the Seahawks for one season in 2009 before being dropped for Pete Caroll and joining the Bruins, a team he has taken to a 23-8 record and two bowl games in his first 2 1/4 years.
