4. 1989: Hawthorn 21.18 (144) d. Geelong 21.12 (138) – Mark Yeates smashes Dermott Brereton in the opening seconds
In what was a planned move, Geelong’s Mark Yeates ran through Hawthorn star Dermott Brereton in the opening seconds of the 1989 Grand Final.
Brereton lived up to his hard man reputation by playing the game with broken ribs, a bruised kidney and internal bleeding.
Incredibly, the Hawks forward managed to go on to kick three goals in a match that his side won by just six points.
