Rams DE Robert Quinn has plenty to smile about after seeing J.J. Watt get a $100 million contract – he may be the next defender in line to earn a big payday.
Early on Tuesday, Texans DE J.J. Watt received a 6-year, $100 million contract extension – becoming one of the few players from the 2011 draft to get a contract extension under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement which forced 1st-round draft picks to wait until their 4th year in the league to negotiate a new contract.
There are many players in the league that have been so dominant and so impactful for their teams that for them to continue playing at their current contract value would be a gross underpayment.
Here is a list of the top 5 players that need to get a new contract negotiated immediately:
5. Von Miller – After missing 7 games and the Superbowl for the Broncos in 2013, Von Miller’s value for the team took a hit. But prior to that, Miller was one of the most dominant defenders in football – Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2011 and a Second-Team All-Pro selection, along with a Pro Bowl appearance in his first two seasons. Miller recorded 30 sacks in just his first two NFL seasons – only Hall of Famers Derrick Thomas and Reggie White, along with troubled 49ers LB Aldon Smith had the same or more. Miller provides countless value to the Broncos defense in a time where they need him if they plan to make it back to the Superbowl while Peyton Manning is still playing. Locking him up early would be the smartest move to make while his value is at its lowest.
