3. Seller’s market for franchises with no viable London buyers
NFL teams are on the market so infrequently that it is hard to gauge if any team will ever be available to pick up and move across the Atlantic. Most NFL owners nowadays leave the team to their families – many of whom have retained control of the teams for generations and are unlikely to give up their stake in the company. Even if there was a team for sale – and as of now the only one available is the Buffalo Bills – there have been no potential buyers with significant ties to London.
The only current NFL owners with a legitimate tie to London are Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan, who also owns the Fullham F.C. soccer team and made an agreement to have his team play in London once a year for several years; the other is the Glazer family, who own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well as Manchester United.
