2. Early lack of success could stunt the team’s growth
Some expansion teams have found success early on – the Jagaurs and Panthers both reached the Conference Championship games as 2nd year teams in 1996. But generally speaking, nearly all expansion teams stumble out the gate.
Recent expansion teams have been very unsuccessful: the re-booted Browns that were brought back in 1999 have made only 1 playoff appearance and have had only 2 winning seasons; the Houston Texans, founded in 2002, have been last place in the league 3 times and have had only three winning seasons.
If the London team takes a few years to put together wins and struggles visibly to the point of being not worth watching at the stadium, it could cause the entire expansion project to blow up in the league’s face.
