4. Jackson Martinez
FC Porto star Jackson Martinez has a minimum fee release clause of €40 million, which would make him a cheaper option than Luis Suarez.
The 6’2″ forward possesses height, pace, strength and a calm head in front of goal, and that clinical touch resulted in 26 goals in 30 Primeira Liga appearances for Porto last season.
Part of a phenomenal forward line for Colombia that includes the aforementioned Luis Muriel and AS Monaco’s Radamel Falcao, Martinez would likely adapt well to the physical style of play of the Premier League.
Napoli were strong favourites to sign the 26 year-old prior to their acquisition of Gonzalo Higuain, but Arsenal have been linked alongside rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.
5. Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney may be holding out for a move to Chelsea, but the Manchester United striker could yet end up at Emirates Stadium as the Blues appear no closer to agreeing a deal.
The England forward has been one of the most productive players in the history of the Premier League, with 156 goals in the top flight since his breakthrough for Everton at the age of just 16.
Rooney has 197 strikes for Manchester United in all competitions too, and has won everything there is to win at club level besides the FA Cup, but reportedly handed in a transfer request at the end of the season and could consider a move to Arsenal.
Manchester United likely consider Chelsea closer title rivals than Arsenal, given their recent Premier League finishing positions, but whether they would be willing to strengthen the Gunners still remains to be seen – despite the sale of Robin Van Persie to Arsenal last summer.
According to the Independent, Chelsea are Rooney’s first choice, but the England star would consider a move to Arsenal if a bid was accepted.
