Further proof of Aaron Ramsey’s wonderful start to the season…
5) Mathieu Debuchy – Newcastle United – 14 tackles
Quietly, for all the outrage that surrounded their miserable summer transfer window – Newcastle have started the season very well, and sit joint fourth in the table with seven points from three games. Debuchy has put in 14 tackles for the Magpies from the right-back position, and is one of six French players who started for Alan Pardew’s side at the weekend!
4) Fabian Delph – Aston Villa – 14 tackles
Delph has well and truly reignited his career. The young Englishman was all but thrown on the football scrap heap, following a string of average performances for Villa and various loan clubs. But this year, he looks like a completely different player, helping Paul Lambert’s team to victory in their opening match against Arsenal.
3) Mile Jedinak – Crystal palace – 15 tackles
Palace’s tough-tackling Australian international has well and truly thrown himself into life in the Premier League, making 15 tackles already that have helped Ian Holloway’s team pick up a single victory. Whether his combative style will be enough to keep palace up is another matter.
2) Joel Ward – Crystal palace – 16 tackles
Ward is the second Palace player in the top five, which shows us that perhaps Palace rarely have the ball, so have more opportunity to tackle than anyone else! The 23-year-old English stopper can expect to be under the cosh defensively on a regular basis this term.
1) Aaron Ramsey – Arsenal – 19 tackles
What a start to the season by the young Welshman… He’s scored two league goals (four in all competitions), and made 19 tackles, dominating the central midfield area. He’s actually been more impressive than his much-hyped midfield partner Jack Wilshere – and looks like he will crucial to Arsenal’s chances of Premier League success this term.
