Oklahoma – More and more the Sooners are looking like they could contend for a national championship. After beating Tennessee, the Sooners proved they can dominate an SEC team – an important stepping stone considering that the road to the national championship will most likely go through the SEC. Trevor Knight is a great young QB and head coach Bob Stoops has created a defense that has outscored the last three opponents by over 100 points – all of them FBS teams, unlike the opponents a team like Alabama has faced so far. Many pundits are saying the Sooners look like the best team in the country, so if the team can beat Baylor in November, they may reach the top 2.
BYU – Not many people pay attention to Independent schools not named Notre Dame, but BYU is quietly dominating college football and could very well make it to the new college football playoffs. BYU has outscored a pair of gritty teams – Houston and Texas – by 74-32. With no games on the schedule against top 25 teams, it may be hard for BYU to climb the rankings. However, by late November teams that manage to stay undefeated usually have a good chance of finding themselves playing a major bowl game – which would be their 10th straight under head coach Bronco Mendenhall.
