LSU’s upset win over the Mississippi State was more than just a team getting the home field advantage, it was about the Tigers trying to win one for the coach. Head coach Les Miles lost his mother on Friday and the team rallied around his intense focus and years of experience through great times and tough times to scratch and claw their way through the best defense in the country to take the win and fight back into the SEC title hunt.
The Tigers now have a home game to prepare for against the Alabama Crimson Tide in a game that will likely send the loser
Here are the five biggest winners from Week 9 of college football:
LSU – The Tigers win over the Rebels not only puts them firmly back into the top 25, but if they can somehow pull the upset against Alabama next week, they may be able to win the SEC West title outright.
West Virginia – Winning on the road against Oklahoma State was a huge step in the right direction and virtually guarantees the Mountaineers their first bowl game appearance since they lost their offensive legends Geno Smith, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey.
TCU – It doesn’t matter that the team they beat was Texas Tech. Any team that can drop 82 points on a conference opponent is a legitimate contender not only for the Big XII title, but maybe for the College Football playoffs.
Ohio State – The true test comes against Michigan State in two weeks, but beating Penn State on the road despite all of those turnovers shows that Ohio State has a lot of resilience. What they need now is to improve that late game defense so no one else manages to pull a fast one on them.
Alabama – At this point it is pretty clear that Alabama has the best WR in college football. With only one more road game this season there should be plenty of cheering for Amari Cooper as he tries to bring the team back to the SEC title game.
