Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)
Mesut Ozil signed for Arsenal on transfer deadline day, and had an instantly transformative effect on the team.
The German began his Gunners career with three goals and four assists in his first seven matches, and although he hasn’t kept up the same productivity since, he has regularly made a big difference in key fixtures.
Ozil averages three key passes per match in the Premier League – the second most in the English top flight behind David Silva of Manchester City – and averages 66.1 passes per match, most of which are in the final third.
“He’s more of a passer than a finisher,” says Wenger of his star man. I think the consistency and quality of his passing slowly drains the opponent.
“He always passes where they don’t want him to do it. That slowly helps us to take over.”
Even when Ozil doesn’t appear at his best, he is making passes and runs for the greater good of the team thanks to his excellent use of space.
