2. Dietmar Hamann (Newcastle United, Liverpool, Manchester City)
Hamann was not as glamorous as Ballack or as prolific from midfield, but he was one of the most reliable performers in the Premier League for years, and will forever be remembered fondly by Liverpool fans for his impact as a half-time substitute in their 2005 Champions League final comeback against AC Milan.
1. Jurgen Klinsmann (Tottenham Hotspur)
Klinsmann’s time in the Premier League was a bit like a solar eclipse; it did not last long but boy was it special. The striker, one of the world’s best at the time of his first move to Tottenham in 1994, scored 28 goals in one-and-a-half seasons to permanently leave his mark on White Hart Lane.
