5. Iker Casillas
Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is a Real Madrid legend, who has won five La Liga titles, two UEFA Champions Leagues, one Copa del Rey, four Supercopa de Espana – as well as national honours with Spain in a World Cup and two European Championships, and an astonishing 151 caps.
He has also often been hailed as the best goalkeeper in the world, with his remarkable reflexes a key attribute in his success.
Still, he is a club legend who was dropped by Mourinho in January.
Casillas had played a minimum of 35 league appearances each campaign for the decade preceding last season, and had risen to captain both Real Madrid and Spain to great success.
Of course, Mourinho has won plenty of trophies himself, so could very well be right in his assessment of Casillas being no longer at his best.
Regardless, even though Mourinho’s replacement Carlo Ancelotti has seen little reason to drop his alternate goalkeeper Diego Lopez due to solid form between the posts, there remains a suspicion that more went on behind the scenes at Real Madrid between Mourinho and Casillas than has been revealed.
