7. St. Louis Rams, NFL – $750 million by Stan Kroenke in 2010
There isn’t a more notorious sports mogul in the Midwest of the United States than Stan Kroenke, who owns sports teams in every major American sport – the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, the MLB’s Colorado Rockies, the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, as well as teams in the Arena Football League, National Lacrosse League and Major League Soccer. It took some time for Kroenke to finally get his hands on a coveted NFL team, but he finally got his goal after slowly buying parts of the team for years.
At the time the sports mogul bought out the Rosenbloom family from their long-time ownership of the Rams, the team was in the midst of a streak of five straight years without a winning season. Kroenke immediately doubled that streak to ten straight seasons and five straight losing seasons.
Dissatisfied with the city of St. Louis, Kroenke is also rumored to be vying to move the Rams from the state of Missouri to a mega stadium he is working on building in the city of Los Angeles.
