4. Miami Dolphins, NFL – $1.1 billion by Stephen Ross in 2008
Billionaire Stephen Ross bought 50% of the previously 1-15 Miami Dolphins from Wayne Huizenga in February 2008 and made a major splash by hiring NFL coaching legend Bill Parcells as Executive of Football Operations. Parcells hired his former assistant coach Tony Sparano as head coach and acquired QB Chad Pennington to lead the offense. The team pulled off one of the greatest turnarounds in NFL history, going 11-5 and winning their first AFC East division title in nearly a decade and making the playoffs for the first time since 2001.
Unfortunately, the Dolphins have not recorded a winning season since Ross completed his ownership bid of the team in 2009. The Dolphins recorded four straight losing seasons from 2009 to 2012 and went 8-8 in each of the last two seasons.
