Shattering the record sale of a team by nearly double, the billionaire Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner diversified his portfolio by gradually buying out the Manchester United shareholders from 2003 to 2005 in a £790m takeover – which came to just under $1.5 billion due to the exchange rate at the time.
Under Glazer’s ownership of the club, Manchester United won three straight Premier League Championships and five in his first seven years as owner. The club also recorded three League Cup Shield wins, five Community Shields and a Champions League win.
