Southampton build from solid base
Mauricio Pochettino took the reins at Southampton on January 18th of this year, but in the second half of last season, the Saints still conceded plenty of goals.
The south coast side only kept four clean sheets from Pochettino’s arrival until the end of the season, but that has dramatically changed in 2013-14.
Southampton have conceded a staggeringly low three goals in nine games this season, meaning they have already kept as many clean sheets as last season’s six. At this stage of the previous campaign, Southampton had conceded 26 – an average of almost three a game.
In Rickie Lambert and Pablo / Dani Osvaldo (delete as appropriate), Southampton have two great goalscorers, and there is intelligent movement, creativity and an attacking threat behind them from the likes of Jay Rodriguez, Gaston Ramirez and Adam Lallana.
Southampton are a vibrant and efficient side who could make a surprising impact in the Premier League.
