4. Park Chu Young (AS Monaco to Arsenal)
When a club gazumps another team to buy a player with a late bid, it ought to be assumed that the player will be worth it.
Park Chu Young was due to complete a medical at Lille OSC in summer 2011 before he heard of interest from Arsenal, and left his hotel room to head to London.
Almost two and a half years later, Park has zero Arsenal league goals, and a solitary strike in the Capital One Cup to his name.
Park was even given the number 9 shirt upon his signing by the Gunners, before it was taken from him to give to a more worthy player in Lukas Podolski.
He is emphatically one of the worst signings Arsene Wenger has ever made – and undoubtedly the strangest.
The oddest thing about the transfer overall is the fears fans of the north London side had that Park would be called up for national service.
Now they’d like to offload him to anyone. The South Korean army would certainly do.
