Schweinsteiger, who has played for his country 111 times at senior international level, straight away jumps towards the top of this list, which ranks the 10 best Germans to ever appear in the Premier League.
However, Schweinsteiger – Germany’s current captain – is not number one.
Find out who is…
11. Robert Huth
Probably the most German German one could possibly imagine. The rock-solid centre-back won two Premier League titles with Chelsea, before moving on to become a first-team regular with Stoke City and then Leicester City.
10. Thomas Hitzlsperger
He is now best-known for being one of the very few openly gay top-level footballers, having come out in January 2014. However, ‘The Hammer’ used to be the talk of the terraces for his thunderous left foot, which scored goals for Aston Villa and West Ham United.
