Scott Sinclair – Manchester City to Aston Villa – Loan
Hit
Once destined to reach the very top of the game following extensive loans with Chelsea, he built himself up to a point where Manchester City came calling with a blank chequebook. But oh how wrong it went – he was frozen out and had barely kicked a ball until Aston Villa came knocking. And since then he has shown what a talent he still is, playing a huge role in Tim Sherwood’s revival if the Midlands giants, scoring three goals in the process.
Carles Gil – Valencia to Aston Villa – £3.2m
Flop
Villa fans thought they’d bagged themselves a real star in the making when Carles Gil let fly with a wonderful effort against Bournemouth in the FA Cup. However, that’s quite literally been it, as Tim Sherwood has kept him exclusively on the bench. Like Cuadrado, there could still be an opportunity for him to feature more heavily next season once Villa climb out of their latest relegation battle, but for the time being it’s not looking good for the skilful Spaniard.
