Spurs lead the chase for Finnish wonderkid Joel Pohjanpalo.
Tottenham are leading the race for Finnish club HJK’s 18-year-old sensation Joel Pohjanpalo, according to The Mirror.
The teenage prodigy shot to prominence last season, when, at just 17, he scored a three minute hat-trick on his first start for the first team. He has already been capped at international level, and went on to score 19 times in all competitions last term.
The young striker spent time on trial at Liverpool and Monaco in 2012, but Tottenham are keen to beat their rivals to his signature, and are readying a £1m bid. Pohjanpalo rejected a three-year-deal with Liverpool in August last year, because the Reds refused to offer him guaranteed reserve team football.
Despite his age, he is an old-fashioned forward in the sense that he does most of his best work in the box and sticks to the centre of the pitch. He is a composed and natural finisher, and he uses his pace and nimbleness to work himself into shooting positions.
Spurs are keen to strengthen their front line this summer, and have been heavily linked with a £25m bid for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke. Pohjanpalo could challenge for game time at White Harte Lane, especially if Spurs offload Emmanuel Adebayor, who they are desperate to get off their wage bill.
