The Gunners new star is expected to make his debut his weekend.
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has sensationally claimed that Arsenal overpaid when they bought Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.
The Gunners broke their transfer record to sign Ozil for £42.5 million on transfer deadline day and supporters are in line to get their first glimpse of the German international when he makes his Premier League debut against Sunderland on Saturday.
Arsene Wenger described the 24-year-old’s capture as a major coup earlier this week but north London counterpart Villas-Boas, who spent over £100 million on seven international players over the summer, feels Arsenal paid over the odds for their new playmaker.
“Real Madrid sold a player for nearly €50million euros and in the end Arsenal paid heavily for a player of that dimension,” he told Metro.
It was the ripple effect of Gareth Bale’s world record £85m move to Madrid from Spurs that opened the door for Arsenal to bring Ozil to the Emirates Stadium and Villas-Boas insists he doesn’t regret the deals.
“Arsenal have lots of players in that position but they have become stronger with Ozil,” he added. “But we can’t say anything – we are happy and Real Madrid are very happy.”
