The Daily Mirror are linking Tottenham with a move for Dutch World Cup star Memphis Depay, who scored twice at this summer’s tournament.
The 20-year-old winger, who currently plays for PSV Eindhoven, has attracted interest from several clubs since his impressive performances in Brazil, including Manchester United, whose new manager Louis van Gaal knows the player very well from his time with Holland.
The player, valued at around £13m, is a major target for Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino who was a fan even before Depay’s heroics for the Dutch in Brazil.
Depay scored an eye-catching 25-yarder for Van Gaal’s side in their 3-2 victory over Australia after coming on as a substitute – which made him the youngest Dutchman ever to score a goal at a World Cup.
He then came off the bench again in the final group match against Chile, scoring the second goal in a 2-0 win in Sao Paolo.
Pochettino was impressed with Depay’s energy and goal instinct and has asked White Hart Lane director of football Franco Baldini to investigate the chances of a successful bid.
The former Southampton boss is thought to have limited funds this summer, following the Spurs spending spree last summer, but money is available for him to strengthen.
The North London club have also been linked with Swansea City duo Michel Vorm and Ben Davies in recent days, but they may have to sell before they can buy.
