Chelsea plot £30m transfer raid for Aston Villa’s prized asset
Eight huge inter-Premier League transfers that could happen this summer: Chelsea to Arsenal deal, plus Man United and Liverpool moves included
The Blues, Spurs, Saints and Manchester City are all chasing the 26-year-old after an incredibly impressive season at Southampton from Spanish champions Atletico.
The La Liga club are now prepared to sell the Belgian, according to Mirror Online, and whilst Southampton’s loan deal means they now have a bargain £6.8 million option to make it a permanent move, Atletico can buy this out for £1.5m then sell him for a much higher fee to any bidder.
Alderweireld’s versatility is seen as a major incentive for the interested parties, he can play right-back, holding midfielder or simply in defence.
However, even he admits that his future is likely to be decided by Atletico Madrid’s financial interests but says that he would love to remain in English football after a successful season, according to Mirror Online.
“Atletico will decide my future, but I would like to stay in the Premier League. That some of the big clubs show interest proves I’m doing well,” said Alderweireld.
