Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up the possibility of replacing Barcelona target Jan Vertonghen with Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio, according to AS.
The north London outfit face the possibility of losing Vertonghen this summer, with Barca rumoured to be considering him as one of a number of options to come in at centre-back as they look to strengthen after some suspect defensive performances last season.
Vertonghen has been a terrific signing for Tottenham since joining from Ajax in 2012, and is now alongside the likes of Paris Saint-Germain youngster Marquinhos as a main target for new Barcelona boss Luis Enrique, and his departure could pave the way for Spurs to make a raid on La Liga.
Musacchio has been one of the most impressive defenders in the Spanish top flight in recent times, and himself has been linked with some big clubs this summer, though his future remains up in the air.
Tottenham are waiting to see if they will be able to keep Vertonghen at White Hart Lane, but Musacchio is believed to be in line to replace him, with the 23-year-old looking a promising talent after his recent emergence in European football.
