North Londoners have sent scouts to watch Belgian.
André Villas-Boas has identified Christian Benteke as a summer transfer target but his immediate focus will be on how to stop the Belgium striker when he takes his Tottenham Hotspur team to Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
Tottenham have sent scouts in recent weeks to watch Benteke, who moved from Genk to Villa Park in August for £7m and has found his feet in English football to score eight goals in all competitions.

Is there really anything in this or are the media simply picking up on Andre Villas-Boas’ lavish praise of Christian Benteke ahead of Tottenham’s Boxing Day clash at Villa Park?
“He has been outstanding, for sure,” the Tottenham manager said of the 22-year-old. “He has eight goals so far and I think he is surprising everybody.”
But Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert will be even more impressed with the form of the Belgian forward and the Scot is sure to fight of any interest for the youngster in January or next summer.
The former Genk man has netted eight goals in 16 starts so far this term and has been the one bright spark in an otherwise dismal few months at Villa Park.
Benteke reportedly claimed in October that he was an admirer of Arsenal, a statement that will surely resurface if Spurs make their interest concrete.
Andre Villas-Boas has steadfastly stuck with Jermain Defoe, using summer signing Emmanuel Adebayor sparingly, so one wonders why the White Hart Lane boss would look to bring in another attacking option if he isn’t using those he currently has to their full potential.
But Benteke is one of an ever growing band of Belgians to have made the grade in the Premier League and the chance to join Jan Vertonghen and Moussa Dembele at the North London club must be appealing.
