Even if Sherwood had done a better job at Tottenham, there would be compelling reason to sack him simply because one of the finest managers in European football is available this summer and, more importantly, interested in the Spurs job. Louis van Gaal has made no secret of his desire to manage in England and with Man United set to stick with David Moyes, Spurs are the Dutchman’s best bet. Sherwood is a proud man but he should recognise that Spurs cannot let the opportunity to appoint the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss slip.
