The African forward is continuing to make big money at White Hart Lane.
There is more bad news for Tottenham Hotpsur after losing 6-0 to Manchester City in the Premier League, as Emmanuel Adebayor is set to cost them £1.4m in the New Year, reports the Metro.
The striker moved to White Hart Lane in the summer of 2011 for £5m, with a further fee agreed to be paid to City in February 2014.
However, as Adebayor took a pay cut to join Spurs then the Citizens have to top up the costs and will pay the £1.4m straight to the 29-year-old.
This will not be received as good news by the Tottenham faithful as the former Arsenal attacker has made just one appearance all season.
That came on Sunday when the north London club traveled to the Etihad Stadium to take on Adebayor’s previous club – which ended in a humiliating 6-0 defeat.
The Togo international was brought on at half-time by manager Andre Villas-Boas, but failed to make any impact on the game as Spurs slumped to an embarrassing loss.
Adebayor has been heavily linked with a move to Turkish side Besiktas for much of 2013, but the club are unwilling to meet the African’s high wage demands.
Likewise it is not in the striker’s interest to leave Tottenham, as the player knows that a huge payout will be coming the Togolese star’s way in the very near future.
Since arriving at the London club Adebayor has played 72 times in all competitions, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists.
AVB says Spurs should be ashamed after City defeat.
