Shaqiri only arrived at San Siro in January from Bayern Munich, but he has struggled to settle and boss Roberto Mancini has conceded that he could be sacrificed this summer in order for the club to sign other players.
The Swiss international had reportedly been set for a move to Stoke, but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter have proposed a swap deal to Spurs with Lamela moving in the opposite direction.
Lamela enjoyed a successful spell with Roma prior to making the switch to England, and given that he hasn’t settled at White Hart Lane, he may welcome the opportunity to return to Serie A.
It is understood that Shaqiri would prefer a move to Tottenham as opposed to Stoke, as reported by Football Italia, and so it remains to be seen if the two clubs will now officially enter negotiations and attempt to reach a deal involving the two wingers.
