How the Tottenham stars rate from their clash at White Hart Lane.
It was not a great start for interim Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood as the coach guided the team to defeat against West Ham United in the League Cup.
After the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas, Sherwood was drafted in to take charge on a temporary basis and instantly installed Emmanuel Adebayor back in the side.
The Togo international did give Spurs the lead, but a quick-fire double from Matt Jarvis and Modibo Maiga ensured West Ham beat the north London side at White Hart Lane for the second time this season.
Here’s how the hosts’ players rated:
Hugo Lloris – 6
The Frenchman is clearly not back to full confidence just yet, although couldn’t really be blamed for the goals.
Kyle Walker – 7
Captain for the night and it was an assured performance from the skipper, who was more solid defensively that usual.
Vlad Chiriches – 5
Could compete physically with Carlton Cole but failed to break down West Ham’s build-up play.
Etienne Capoue – 5
Another game for the Frenchman following injury, although this was not quite the performance Sherwood would have wanted.
Danny Rose – 6
Still adjusting to life back in the first team after injury and this was another solid game for the youngster.
Aaron Lennon – 6
Same old story for Lennon, as the winger managed to get into good positions but the final ball was poor.
Moussa Dembele – 6
Sat deeper to allow Sigurdsson to break forward and was genuinely solid, although was occasionally sloppy when passing.
Gylfi Sigurdsson – 7
Was the link between midfield and attack and it looks like it could be a role that the Iceland international grows into.
Andros Townsend – 7
Back in the side again and was a constant threat down the left-hand side.
Emmanuel Adebayor – 7
This was a great showing from the African who was proving AVB wrong as the forward looked sharp and netted a superb volley.
Jermain Defoe – 6
A steady game for the Englishman, although did look a little isolated up front at times and this could well be Defoe’s last year at the club.
