Argentinian set to leave the Spanish capital this summer.
London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are set to go head to head in order to sign departing Real Madrid front man Gonzalo Higuain at the end of the season, reports the Daily Mail.
The Liga giants announced on Thursday that the coveted 25-year-old would be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, despite the forward still having three years left to run on his deal in the Spanish capital.
However, it is understood that the Argentina international’s girlfriend is moving to London to study this summer and that Higuain will be following her to the English capital, and so putting both Arsenal and Tottenham on alert.
Higuain has been a great success in Madrid since joining the club from Argentinian giants River Plate in 2006, scoring an eye-catching 105 goals in just 187 league encounters.
And both north London clubs will need to smash their own respective record transfers if they want to land the striker this summer, with Madrid valuing Higuain at £25 million.
“In a great club like Real, we believe we need two number nines of a high level. We have Benzema and Higuain, Higuain will leave, Benzema will stay and two others will come,” said Madrid general manager Jose Angel Sanchez.
