North Londoners only just missed out on Champions League qualification last campaign.
Tottenham Hotspur are set for a mass clear out when the transfer window once again reopens for business at the start of July, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The north London club only missed out on qualification for next season’s Uefa Champions League to arch-rivals Arsenal on the very last day of the season.
However, as a result Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas has been told by club chairman Daniel Levy that he will need to slash their already astronomical wage bill at White Hart Lane this summer if he wishes to bring more ‘big-name’ recruits into the club for next season.
And, among the players believed to be under threat of the axe are David Bentley, William Gallas, Emmanuel Adebayor, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Jake Livermore, Tom Huddlestone and Heurelho Gomes.
Of all of the above names mentioned, it is perhaps that of Togo international Adebayor that is likely to attract most interest from both the Premier League and abroad, despite the fact that the striker managed to score only five goals in 24 top-flight matches for Spurs in the whole of last season.
