North Londoners are desperate to add more firepower to their attack next season.
Tottenham Hotspur will step up their attempts to sign FC Barcelona front man David Villa this week with technical director Franco Baldini due to meet the Spaniard for talks, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The experienced Spain international has already made it clear that he intends to leave Camp Nou this summer after having spent the previous three seasons in Catalonia, during which time the striker has enjoyed an up-and-down career with the Liga champions.
However, ever since breaking his leg in the World Club Championship in Japan in Dec 2011, the 31-year-old has struggled for both form and fitness, netting just ten goals in his 28 league appearances for the club in the previous campaign under new head coach Tito Villanova.
And now the north London club hope to be able to take advantage of the player’s unhappiness at Barca by persuading Villa to swap Barcelona for London when the transfer window finally reopens for business on July 1.
