Tottenham Hotspur flop Erik Lamela looks set to stay at White Hart Lane, after the president of Italian club Napoli told Repubblica that his club are not interested in signing the Argentinian.
Lamela was the marquee signing of Tottenham’s 2013 summer, as they spent the spoils earned from Gareth Bale’s record transfer to Real Madrid.
He failed to hit the ground running in a white shirt, however, and spent much of the season sidelined with a mysterious back injury.
It is not yet clear whether Mauricio Pochettino sees Lamela as a key part of his plans, although it is likely that a willingness to bring the best out of the Argentinian would’ve been a prerequisite for being offered the job.
The Napoli president is reported to have said that his side had shown some interest in Lamela last summer, whilst he was still at Roma, but no longer have any desire to bring him to Naples.
With the likes of Jose Callejon, Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne to choose from, it does appear unlikely that manager Rafa Benitez would feel the need to add any more attacking midfield talent to his set-up in this window.
