North London club appear to have beaten off interest from rest of Europe for Selecao international.
Tottenham Hotspur are said to be preparing a £20 million offer for coveted Atletico Mineiro player midfield Bernard this summer, according to reports in The Times.
The Brazil international has been the subject of intense speculation of late linking him with a big-money move to the Continent when the transfer window reopens for business on July 1, with the likes of Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and Portuguese champions FC Porto both also believed to be interested in the attacking midfield player.
However, it is understood that it is the north London club who are actually in the driving seat to bring the 20-year-old to White Hart Lane for next season, with Tottenham happy to meet his club’s £20m asking price.
Bernard, who is currently part of the Brazil squad competing in the Confederations Cup back in his homeland, has scored 20 goals in his 95 appearances for Atletico Mineiro since making his debut for the club in 2011 and it is expected that he will play up front next season in Spurs coach Andre Villas-Boas’s favoured 4-3-3 line-up.
