Kyle Walker
The pressure of being Tottenham Hotspur’s only real option at right back for the last few seasons may well be getting to Kyle Walker, with the England man appearing quite fatigued recently, and missing international duty.
Still, given that the UEFA Europa League is Spurs’ best chance of success this season, Tim Sherwood will likely give Walker every chance to prove his fitness.
Danny Rose
Danny Rose too has struggled with injury recently, but his spell at Sunderland last season and his time with Spurs this term illustrate that he is a fine option at left full back – and he keeps Kyle Naughton (not ready) and Jan Vertonghen (dislikes the position) from playing there.
Jan Vertonghen
Jan Vertonghen is Tottenham Hotspur’s best centre back, but there seems no doubt that the team’s tricky season has affected his form, with an error prone performance against Chelsea particularly disappointing.
Spurs will need him to play to his ability for the remainder of the campaign, and a good performance against Benfica would be a fine start.
Younes Kaboul
Younes Kaboul was immensely unlucky to be shown a red card against Chelsea at the weekend in what proved to be a nightmare game for Tottenham Hotspur, but deserves a chance ahead of Michael Dawson to face a Benfica side with speed and guile in their attack.
