North Londoners may now switch their focus back to Leandro Damiao instead.
Tottenham Hotspur look like missing out on in-demand Atletico Mineiro midfield player Bernard, with FC Porto now the new favourites to sign the Brazilian this summer, reports the Daily Mirror.
The north London club had been keeping close tabs on the pint-sized Brazil international for some time now, with a view to bringing the youngster to White Hart Lane when the summer transfer window had reopened at the start of this month.
However, having already had one offer of £15 million for the 20-year-old rejected by his club, Tottenham have since decided to withdraw their interest in the attacking midfield player, who has already been capped on five occasions by the Samba Boys since making his international debut for the Selecao last year.
And that is because Atletico Mineiro are demanding a fee of £22m for Bernard, who has a contract with the Belo Horizonte team that runs until June 30 2017, a figure that has also reportedly scared off Uefa Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund, clearing the path free for Porto to sign the player.
