Spurs want playmaker at White Hart Lane this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur face a battle with Serie A giants Inter Milan to sign in-demand Benfica midfield player Nicolas Gaitan at the end of the season, according to reports on talkSPORT.co.uk.
The north London club have been monitoring the highly-talented Argentina international all campaign, with new head coach Andre Villas-Boas believed to be a huge fan of the winger.
However, it now appears Inter Milan have also joined the race to sign the 25-year-old this summer, despite the fact that Gaitan has a contract in the Portuguese capital that runs until the end of May 2016.
But, it is also well known that Benfica are a selling club who will be open to any big-money offers for their most coveted players, of which Gaitan is most definitely one.
And with both European heavyweights understood to be prepared to meet Benfica’s £15 million valuation of the Argentinian, who has scored 16 goals and made another 36 for team-mates in just 128 matches in all competitions since arriving at the Stadium of Light from Boca Juniors three years ago, there is soon set to be an intriguing tug of war for Gaitan.
While Spurs remain in with a good chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League courtesy of a top four finish in the Premier League, Inter are struggling to make any kind of European competition next term, and currently sit fifth in the Serie A.
